Owen Cooper etched his name into the record books at the Golden Globe Awards.

On Sunday, January 11, the 16-year-old made history as the youngest actor to ever claim a Golden Globe Award. He stepped onto the stage at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles to receive the honor for Best Performance by a Supporting Actor on TV for his portrayal of Jamie Miller in Adolescence.

Opening his acceptance speech with amazement, he remarked, “Standing here at the Golden Globes does not feel real whatsoever. What an incredible journey my family and I have been put through. We are forever grateful for what these people have done for me and my family.”

It comes as Leonardo DiCaprio was brutally stopped by security at the Golden Globes for violating a strict rule.

Owen went on to recount the origins of his acting career. He explained, “You know, what started off as what I thought, ‘You know, I might be okay, I might be awful at.’ I never know. So I took a risk, and I went to drama classes.

“I was the only boy there, and it was embarrassing,” he jokingly admitted. “But I got through it.”

Despite having just secured one of Hollywood’s most coveted accolades, he revealed, “I’m still very much an apprentice. I’m still learning every day. I’m still learning from the people who are sitting in front of me. I wouldn’t be here without you guys.”

Following expressions of gratitude toward his colleagues, nervousness surfaced as he exclaimed, “Ahhh, this is mad. What is going on?”

After regaining his composure, he expressed appreciation to his family and support team before concluding, “Bring on 2026. You’ll never walk alone. Good night,” citing the famous Liverpool FC anthem.

This isn’t Owen’s first time making award show history.

Just a few months ago, he clinched the title of the youngest male Emmy winner, taking home the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie award for his performance in Adolescence.

In addition to Owen’s recognition, the popular crime series garnered five nominations at this year’s Golden Globe Awards. It was one of the most acknowledged TV shows, just behind The White Lotus, which took the lead with six nominations.

On the movie front, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another led the pack with nine nods, closely trailed by Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value with eight. Following them were Ryan Coogler’s Sinners with seven and Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet with six.

The night’s nominee list featured big names like Gary Oldman, Ariana Grande, and Michael B. Jordan.

A couple of actors, including heartthrobs Jacob Elordi and Paul Mescal, earned their inaugural nod at the award show this year.
