Sherrone Moore posing with Warde Manuel

Warde Manuel was not in the clear after firing Sherrone Moore.

University of Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel was thought to be on the ropes following the firing of Sherrone Moore. But there’s now some clarity on his future.

There was some talk of Manuel possibly being made to follow Moore out the exit door, given the way things unfolded. It was even suggested that he would be unlikely to have a say in Moore’s replacement.

However, according to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Michigan has no plans to ditch its AD. Dellenger noted in a tweet that calls were held on Thursday to address the situation regarding Moore’s situation.

And it appears that Manuel will be involved in the appointment of a new head coach.

“Michigan board members and university officials held a call earlier today related to the situation with Sherrone Moore, sources tell @YahooSports,” Dellenger wrote. “Despite reports to the contrary, Warde Manuel remains the athletic director as the school begins a search for its next coach.”

Manuel Warde was reportedly alone in his office when he fired Sherrone Moore on Wednesday. There was no one from HR or security.

He did so despite being made aware that the head coach was dealing with mental health issues. And it didn’t take long for the coach to flip out.

Moore reportedly drove to the apartment of the Michigan staffer he’s alleged to have had a relationship with. The woman has since been identified as 32-year-old Paige Shiver, the daughter of someone in an NFL front office.

Shiver was also Moore’s executive assistant.

The coach reportedly broke into her apartment with a knife in his hand and threatened to kill her, as well as himself.

He fled the scene, but police picked him up from a church around an hour later.

As things stand, Warde has survived the fallout. His tenure has been marred by controversy, including Jim Harbaugh’s recruitment violations and the sign-stealing scandal.

And that’s just football. There were also matters involving former men’s basketball head coach Juwan Howard and former men’s hockey coach Mel Pearson, who were both dismissed.

Harbaugh gave Moore his blessing after he returned to the NFL, but his glowing assessment has aged like milk.

The Wolverines football program is now in search of a new head coach, which would be their third in four years.
