Rice University soccer player Claire Tracy has tragically lost her life.

Rice University officials announced the d3ath of Tracy. She was a second-year undergraduate student who passed away on Sunday.

The university announced Tracy’s passing in a letter to students and faculty.

“It is with deep sadness that I am writing to tell you that Claire Tracy, a second-year undergraduate student, passed away on Sunday,” Bridget K. Gorman, the D3n of Undergraduates, wrote in the release.

Tracy was a student at Wiess College, one of Rice’s 11 residential colleges. She previously played on the Rice soccer team during the 2024 season, according to the team’s roster.

Claire Tracy was a highly decorated athlete from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. She helped Brookfield Academy win a state championship in 2021. The youngster scored 43 goals and recorded 25 assists.

She also led Brookfield Academy to a state semifinal finish in 2023, three conference championships, and four regional soccer championships.

She would soon announce her verbal commitment to the Owls in 2022. Tracy was a four-time conference player of the year at the time of her decision.

Claire Tracy Participates In Shocking Trend

Rice University star soccer player Claire Tracy di3d on Sunday. Claire joined Rice in fall 2024 from Menomonee Falls.

The 19-year-old sophomore athlete was found d3ad after participating in a shocking trend. On the day before her d3ath, she shared three posts on her TikTok account. It included one describing a so-called “devil trend.”

“I’m doing ‘the devil’ trend on TikTok. I will say ‘the devil couldn’t reach me,’ and you will answer, ‘he did.’ Then, I will ask ‘How,’ and you will give me the most brutally honest answer based on everything you know about me,” Tracy wrote.

“Because you did the work for him. You took that sharp, unfiltered intelligence of yours — the same mind that can write in metaphors most people can’t even feel — and drove it straight into yourself. You saw too clearly, thought too deeply, peeled every layer back until there was nothing left to shield you from the weight of being alive,” a friend then replied.

“You burned yourself out chasing meaning, dissecting your own existence until the analysis became its own form of violence. You didn’t need the devil to tempt you; you handed him the blade and carved the truth into your own mind,” the message concluded.

A cause of d3ath has not been revealed.

Young athletes dying is an unfortunate part of life. Last month, Cal State Fullerton sophomore Lauren Turner lost her life. Her d3ath came weeks after she and her teammate were struck by a box truck.

Former college star James Lynn Marshall was fatally shot during the summer. 18-year-old college football player Kevon Walker was found d3ad in 2024.

Aside from soccer, Claire Tracy pursued a degree in finance, and others described her as a bright spirit with a strong friend group.
