Fox News interrupted its Tuesday broadcast (July 22) to deliver the devastating news that rock legend Ozzy Osbourne had d13d — with anchor John Roberts sharing personal memories of the Prince of Darkness in a rare, emotional on-air tribute.
“He was in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice,” host Martha MacCallum told viewers, noting Ozzy’s dual induction. “Once with Black Sabbath and once as a solo artist.” Bringing in Roberts, she added: “John’s here now — John, good to have you with us. You knew Ozzy Osbourne?”
Roberts reflected on two interviews with the rock star that spanned decades. “I got a chance to interview him twice — once was at the Rock in Rio Festival in 1985. We were both substantially younger then than we are now,” he recalled. “He said he went into the Betty Ford Clinic because he didn’t want to di3.”
“He got kicked out of Black Sabbath because of it. And he said when you go into the Betty Ford Clinic, everyone is like everyone else — you’re vacuuming the floors and cleaning the toilets,” he added.

But the road to recovery was far from linear. He continued, “Then he said it didn’t work, and he had to go back some 15 times before he got sober, and that would have probably been about 2004.
“I interviewed him again in October 2010 when his memoir came out, and in one passage of the book he said he did so much cocaine during the day that he had to smoke a bag of pot at night just to stop his heart from exploding.”
Roberts also told viewers about a revelation the rock star made about dying. “The interesting thing about Ozzy is a lot of people never thought he’d live past the age of 50,” he said.

“But then again, with all of the things he did to himself, you thought he would live forever. So, to see him pass away at the age of 76, by statistics, is quite remarkable. But it’s really quite sad, as a lot of people thought he was going to live a lot longer.”
Osbourne’s d3ath was confirmed Tuesday morning in a statement from his family: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.
“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2003, the Black sabbath frontman didn’t publicly reveal his condition until 2020.
Despite health struggles, he made a triumphant return to the stage earlier this month for one final show in Birmingham — reuniting with his original Black Sabbath bandmates for a farewell that would ultimately become historic.
