NFL commissioner Roger Goodell strongly hinted that Swift would do that earlier this month while speaking with the Today Show. However, it seems he may have spoken too soon.

Industry insider Rob Shuter reported that the NFL approached Swift about the idea but refused to accommodate her demands. The league has a long-standing practice of not paying halftime performers, offering the event as “exposure.”

According to Shuter’s report, Swift felt disrespected as the insider stated, “Taylor Swift doesn’t need exposure.”

“She wasn’t asking for favors, she was asking for respect,” said one music industry exec quoted by Shuter.

“Taylor knows her worth. She knows the kind of ratings she brings, the global attention she commands. She wasn’t about to hand that over for free.”

According to insiders, Swift asked for full ownership rights to her performance and requested advertising slots so she could promote her projects. Unfortunately for Taylor Swift, the NFL would decline.

Insiders noted, “She wanted a deal that reflected her value. She wasn’t about to hand that over for free.” Another stated, “Without Taylor, it’s just another halftime show.”
