Travis Kelce Reveals Bizarre Reason For Kansas City Chiefs’ Struggles In Scathing Rant

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was perfectly blunt in his assessment of the team’s disappointing start to the 2025 season.

Travis Kelce and the Chiefs have been by far the NFL’s most disappointing team this season, falling to 5-5 after Sunday’s heartbreaking 22-19 road loss to the Denver Broncos. After going undefeated in one-score contests last season, the Chiefs are 0-5 in such games this season.

Not only are the Chiefs’ hopes for a 10th straight AFC West division crown over (the Broncos are 9-2), but they’re far from a guarantee to make the postseason. The Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4) occupy the final wild card spot in the AFC, and they have the head-to-head tiebreaker over Kansas City.

During the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast (via Pete Grathoff of The Kansas City Star), he co-hosts with older brother Jason Kelce, Travis blamed a lack of discipline and not enough urgency behind the Chiefs’ awful 5-5 start:

“A bunch of flags all over the place, whether it was, procedural penalties, which is the…most frustrating thing ever, or holding penalties, which some I’m here for. Others, I’m just like, ‘What are we even doing?’ And obviously putting up touchdowns instead of field goals, man…

It’s frustrating because it’s got to the point where we’re 5-5, we’re 500 going into the back end of the schedule here. Got seven games left, and we’ve basically got to run the table. And I haven’t been in this situation in a long, long time, man…

We just need to turn it up a notch, the accountability, the details. I’m right here raising my hand saying, ‘I need to get my (stuff) right.’ And that should be the mentality of everybody that steps in this…building and there needs to be a sense of urgency to get that…done and to be proficient with how you’re getting it done. And I got a lot of faith in the guys in this building. I know I’m gonna go to war for them…

It’s just getting the details right and focusing in on the task at hand, the play called, where we’re going offensive line wise, in terms of blocking, and then receivers wise, there’s a sense of urgency. We’ve got to…get going. We got to run. We’ve got to make sure that we’re on time knowing Pat’s under duress.”

Indeed, it’s now-or-never for the defending AFC champs.

Struggling Chiefs Can’t Just Keep Relying On Patrick Mahomes & Travis Kelce

The vibes were high for Travis Kelce entering the 2025 season, as he got engaged to girlfriend Taylor Swift in August. But on the football field, things couldn’t be much more disheartening for the team that has played in five of the last six Super Bowls.

Not only is Kansas City struggling on both sides of the ball, but they’re wasting productive seasons from Mahomes and Kelce. The latter is actually on pace to finish with over 1,000 receiving yards for the first time since 2022, and Mahomes will easily smash last season’s passing yards (3,928) and passing touchdowns (26) totals

Kansas City has to stop relying on the two future Hall of Famers to do the heavy lifting, though. The ground game, wide receivers and defense have to step up if the Chiefs are to climb back into the playoff picture.
