Carmelo Anthony, Caitlin Clark and Reggie Miller interview

She did not expect that.

Caitlin Clark was visibly upset after Reggie Miller compared her to a certain NBA player.

Now a global icon, the Indiana Fever star has landed a broadcasting gig with NBC. She made her debut over the weekend, joining the network’s Sunday Night Basketball crew.

That crew included former Pacers star Reggie Miller. The Hall of Famer was asked to compare Clark to a current NBA star.

Caitlin looked to Reggie with a smile, ready to soak in the praise. But Miller hit her with something unexpected: a comparison to Payton Pritchard.

The comment wiped the smile off her face.

Reggie explained Payton’s ability to hit great shots when the shot clock is running down. But that was hardly enough to placate a scowling Caitlin.

While Clark may have expected to be compared to someone like Steph Curry or Damian Lillard, Pritchard is no scrub.

He’s the reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year and is one of the most dependable players in the league. The 28-year-old has seen his influence on the Boston Celtics grow in Jayson Tatum’s absence.

He’s averaged 16.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists a game on 45.6 percent shooting over 47 games. He’s also shooting 35.2 percent from three and 85.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The guard scored 29 points in a win over the Sacramento Kings last week. That outing followed 32 and 42-point outings from earlier in the season.

Pritchard also leads the NBA in games with 25 or more points while shooting no free throws.

Clark may soften her stance once she checks him out. But she also wants to model her game after a certain Lakers superstar, so there’s that, too.
