After Shedeur Sanders fell out of the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, nobody quite expected him to still be available on day three.

The former Colorado star and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year was widely believed to be one of the top quarterbacks in the class behind Miami’s Cam Ward, who went to the Tennessee Titans with the No. 1 overall pick.

But it would take until Saturday before Sanders heard his name called. And it’s not clear why so many teams ultimately chose not to take a chance on Sanders.

Sanders has his NFL opportunity in Cleveland after the Browns took a chance with the No. 144 overall pick in the fifth round.

Should that not work out, another team from another league is hoping to bring him aboard.

According to a report from Dave Naylor of TSN, the Toronto Argonauts have reportedly invited Sanders to join the CFL.

The Argonauts are the reigning CFL champions.

In the CFL, each team is permitted to compile a 45-player negotiation list, holding the rights of those players who would like to sign with the league.

“CFL by-laws state that teams can claim exclusive rights for up to 45 players by placing them on their negotiation lists,” the league’s official website states. “Players can be added, removed, or traded from the lists at any time.”

So what does it mean for Shedeur Sanders’ future? Absolutely nothing. He is not going to play in the CFL.
