CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is close friends with Bravo host Andy Cohen. Their friendship continued into the next generation after their children met. But the CNN host shared his concerns for his longtime friend. Keep reading to find out what’s going on.
Anderson Cooper Reveals Concern Over Andy Cohen
Anderson Cooper joined CNN as an anchor in 2001. A year later, he started hosting the cable network’s New Year’s Eve special. He co-hosted alongside comedian Kathy Griffin from 2007 until she was fired in 2017 after posting a photo of President Trump beheaded.
Bravo host Andy Cohen took over and has co-hosted alongside his friend ever since. The duo returns on December 31, 2025, to ring in another new year with the audience. But Anderson Cooper admitted that he’s concerned after Andy Cohen’s previous behavior.

Andy Cohen had too much to drink during the celebration a few years ago that resulted in CNN briefly banning alcohol. The network lifted the ban, but the New Year’s Eve hosts have to limit how much they drink.
When he’s a little drunk, Andy Cohen doesn’t have a care in the world. It’s a big reason a lot of viewers tune in to see what unhinged things the Bravo host will say. But Anderson Cooper is tired of the headlines the next day.
The hosts were guests on Stephen Colbert’s late-night talk show earlier this week. “The problem for me is after New Year’s Eve, as soon as we get off, really in the last 30 minutes, I’m just looking at things online to see in what ways has he screwed us over,” Anderson Cooper said.
The CNN host claimed he “never” drinks except on New Year’s Eve with Andy Cohen. But the Bravo host denied being the problem. In fact, he claimed that he had to keep Anderson Cooper under control.
“Around 10:45 on New Year’s Eve every year, I become the straight man of our broadcast, and I am driving the ship of CNN starting at 10:45. Yes, I am,” Andy Cohen claimed, noting that he got Anderson Cooper “a little drunk” during last year’s celebration.
CNN Plans Star-Studded New Year’s Eve Celebration
The new year is right around the corner. CNN finally revealed some of the musicians and celebrities joining them to compete with ABC’s New Year’s Eve celebration hosted by Ryan Seacrest.
’90s cult icon Robyn takes the stage in Times Square, Manhattan, to perform her biggest hits. Shakira performs from Florida. Brandy and Monica are scheduled to appear from their The Boy is Mine tour stop.
Other performers include Bryan Adams. Florence + The Machine, Brandi Carlile, and Patti LaBelle. Late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert is scheduled to appear, as are comedians B.J. Novak and Leanne Morgan. Click here to read the full details of CNN’s New Year’s Eve celebration to ring in 2026.
