For years, Kelsey Plum has been embraced as the WNBA’s unofficial “Puerto Rican Princess.”
Fans swore she had Boricua roots. Some even insisted she had to be Puerto Rican — because, well, look at her.

Turns out, everyone was wrong.

Over the weekend, the Las Vegas Aces star set the record straight in a WNBA video, and the truth had fans both laughing and a little heartbroken.

“I’m not Puerto Rican,” Plum said with a smile. “I’m so sorry to let people down. I’m just white — I’m Irish, actually. I’m a proud Irish woman, but I feel like I’m an ally to all communities. And now, in particular, because I’ve been endeared by the [Puerto Rican] community.”

Plum even joked about her upcoming matchup:

“I know we’re playing Puerto Rico in South Carolina… it feels like a great fit. I’ve been called a Boricua. Whatever y’all need me to be for you, I’m rocking. Let’s do it.”

Fans loved it — especially the part where she rolled her R’s. One commenter wrote, “She rolled her R, y’all better claim her.”

A Tough Offseason Behind The Smile

While the 29-year-old point guard was all laughs in the video, she’s been privately dealing with a difficult chapter in her personal life.

Earlier this month, Plum confirmed she and NFL tight end Darren Waller are getting divorced — just over a year after tying the knot.

“The offseason’s been tough for me,” she told FOX5’s Paloma Villicana. “I’m sure everyone knows — it’s pretty public. But I’m super grateful. My faith has grown tremendously, and I know who I am. You kind of get refined by fire.”

For now, she’s channeling her energy into the court — determined to lead the Aces to back-to-back championships.

“She rolled her R, yall better claim her,” a fan wrote in the comments.

Kelsey Plum Is Going Through A Difficult Time

While Kelsey Plum was all smiles in the video above, she’s been going through a difficult period as she’s splitting from her husband, Darren Waller.

The 29-year-old confirmed that she and the NFL tight end were going through a divorce earlier this month.

“The offseason’s been tough for me,” she told FOX5 reporter Paloma Villicana in an interview. “I’m sure, everyone knows, it’s pretty public, but for me, I’m super-grateful. I think my faith has grown tremendously. And not just that but I know who I am, and like, you kind of get refined by fire.”

Plum and Waller tied the knot just over a year ago. While it’s disappointing to have to split up so soon, the guard says she’s focused on trying to win back-to-back titles with the Aces.
