Dancing with the Stars has officially aired its new companion series, Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro, but some viewers were left unimpressed by the new show following its premiere.
ABC officially aired the first episode of the new show, which aims to find a new pro dancer for the original dance competition series ahead of its landmark 35th season on Monday, July 13.
While fans were initially concerned that the show could spell the end of some of their longtime favorites’ tenures on the show, many are now singing a different tune.
Following the premiere of the episode–which saw Robert Irwin hosting and Derek Hough mentoring and judging alongside Shirley and Mark Ballas–many fans admitted they were left underwhelmed by the show.
Taking to Reddit following the first episode, many aired grievances that the pre-taped version of the show wasn’t as exciting as the original and failed to capture their attention.

“It felt like I watched some kind of Temu version of a show. Also very cringey,” one person wrote. “I thought it was pretty boring; I’m thinking I’ll just check in with the sub for weekly updates,” another said.
Another took issue with the show being pre-taped, meaning fans weren’t choosing the winner.
“Honestly my issue with the show is that it just feels kind of meaningless when producers can just choose whoever they want to win, and all the decisions can be based on that,” they said. “Plus the fact we’re all pretty convinced Hailey is getting promoted, so what’s the point of a competition when producers can just do what they want regardless.”

“I might also just be jaded after all the ‘life changing’ competition shows that end up doing nothing for the winner’s career,” they added.
Others expressed concerns over whether the remaining contestants would be challenged as teachers, given that they were all performing together and were all professional dancers.
“I hope that one of the challenges is to teach a random person off the streets a dance. If they are just dancing with each other, this is meaningless,” they wrote.
The concerns about the show come after Hough mentored the contestants on the importance of technique as the guys danced Jive routines and the women performed Sambas.

Jake Monreal was also eliminated (Image: ABC)
In the end, Briar Nolet and Jake Monreal, who previously competed on Dancing With the Stars: Juniors, were eliminated.
The remaining competitors competing for the one-year contract on the show are: Adele Zaikman, AJ Pritchard, Allen Genkin, Benjamin Castro, Erik Linder, Natalie Jolley, Nina Mayster, Selena Hamilton, Stephani Sosa, and Tristen Sanders.
The next episode will see them face a storytelling challenge where they will be mentored by Brandon Armstrong and another pair of dancers will be eliminated.
The following week will see them work on group performances with Britt Stewart.
