Last night, Megan Moroney was one of the most nominated artists at the CMA Awards, where she was up for six trophies in Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Female Vocalist of the Year, as well as Single of the Year, Music Video of the Year, and Musical Event of the Year for “Don’t Mind If I Do,” featuring Kenny Chesney.

She went home empty-handed, though it was her performance of “6 Months Later” that’s getting a lot of attention, which was a little rough to be honest.

Megan wrote the song with Ben Williams, David “Messy” Mescon, and Rob Hatch. And like many of her songs, “6 Months Later” focuses on heartbreak and how she’s coping in the wake of a breakup. It’s also her current single at country radio, and it previously debuted at #30 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart (which encompasses all musical genres), making it the highest debut of her career thus far.

And I’m not sure if there were issues with the in-house audio or what, but vocally, it wasn’t her best performance, and fans on X let her have it… she received similar criticism at the CMA Awards last year, and I’m sure performing on live TV is really scary, so maybe the nerves contributed, but still… not the kind of reaction you want from people during one of country music’s biggest night on national television.

Here’s a clip of it:

It’s not great, there’s no denying that, but I’ve seen her live several times, and she sounded much better in person, so hopefully she can shake it off and come back even better next year.

Not everyone is going to sound like Chris Stapleton live, we all know that, and I would link Megan’s full performance here, but the video is nowhere to be found on the official CMA Awards YouTube page or other social media accounts, where they have posted everyone else’s speeches and live performances.

I’m not sure if it’s an oversight, or they just don’t want the negative comments about Megan’s voice, but the only thing you can find from the performance is this photo on X:

I get it, they don’t want bad press or negative comments about one of their most nominated artists, but hopefully this whole thing will motivate Megan to come back better than ever when she likely performs a new song from her forthcoming album Cloud 9.
