DWTS celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. The show brought back OG dancers from the first season and former host Tom Bergeron earlier this month for a fun birthday celebration. The former host petitioned for Dancing With The Stars to bring back a feature from the past. An exec shared an update on whether the popular feature would return for Season 35.
Tom Bergeron Reveals Why Dancing With The Stars Is A Ratings Hit Again
Many DWTS fans would describe the first few years after Tom Bergeron left as a dark time in the show’s history. He was fired in 2020 after 28 seasons. The fan-favorite host publicly disagreed with the casting of controversial political figure Sean Spicer that year.

ABC brought model Tyra Banks in as a replacement. She left after three seasons amid dwindling ratings and massive backlash. Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough currently co-host the show.
In honor of the show’s anniversary, the showrunners, Conrad Green and Deena Katz, reached out to Tom Bergeron to see if he would return to the ballroom in Los Angeles, California. In an interview around the time of the birthday special, he told The Hollywood Reporter that he only returned because they were the ones who asked. The former host said he wouldn’t have returned if DWTS were still under a former showrunner.
One of the biggest celebrities on Season 34 is social media influencer Alix Earle. Tom Bergeron praised the casting decision. “I think they have very cleverly made it a younger show…Look who they’re casting. They’re casting influencers and people who, when I was there, would have been, [like], Really? Okay — but it’s working. It’s attracting a younger audience,” he told THR.

The former host added, “It feels younger in a lot of ways when I watch it. I think they’ve adapted to the times very well.”
But there’s just one thing missing, according to Tom Bergeron and many fans of the show.
Show Exec Shares Update On Missing Feature Fans Want Back
In the early seasons, Dancing With The Stars aired two nights a week. The contestants danced on Monday, then found out who was going home on Tuesday. The Tuesday night results show ended around 2013. But Tom Bergeron petitioned for DWTS to bring it back. He said it would correct the unfair scoring that fans always complain about.
TV Insider asked the show’s executive producer, Deena Katz, whether they plan to bring the results show back. “I used to love the results show. They were so much fun. It was like doing a big variety show. We had music, dance…it was everything. It was great,” the EP said.
However, she doesn’t expect the results show to return any time soon. “I feel we’re doing great right now. I’m thrilled with what we’re doing,” she explained about the decision. Of course, you can never say never with television. But ABC has a full schedule, so it’s unlikely they would free up an extra night for DWTS.
