Kelvin Luebke, a 22-year-old man from Minnesota, has been arrested for lying about his age to play on a high school football team.

In a story that sounds like it came straight out of a Hollywood movie, Kelvin Luebke was enrolled at White Bear Lake High School in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, where he reportedly claimed to be a 17-year-old.

But in a bizarre development, officials discovered that Luebke was lying about his age and has been charged with theft and lewdness, according to Liz Collin of Alpha News in Minnesota.

Collin obtained the email that White Bear Lake High School principal Russell Reetz sent to parents. In the letter, Reetz wrote that Kelvin Luebke allegedly enrolled “using fraudulent documentation and a false identity.”

The letter states that Luebke is banned from entering any school district property. Reetz also thanked the people who informed officials to investigate Luebke:

Per Collin, Luebke went by “KJ” and told others he was a senior.

Kelvin Luebke Isn’t The Only Athlete To Lie About His Age

As crazy as this story sounds to young sports fans, there are actually plenty of well-documented stories about athletes lying about their age.

In 2008, then-Houston Astros superstar Miguel Tejada admitted to lying about his age when he signed with the Oakland Athletics in 1993. Tejada claimed at the time that he was 17 (born in 1996), but the six-time All-Star was actually born in 1974.

Danny Almonte was a standout pitcher for the Bronx team of the Mid-Atlantic Region at the 2001 Little League World Series. He claimed to be 12 years old at the time, but an investigation found that he was actually 14.

These are just a handful of instances of athletes lying about their age, but it’s especially bizarre for a 22-year-old male to lie about his age by five years for the sake of playing high school football.
