Fernando Mendoza postgame interview

He’s the last person you’d expect to say something like that.

Fernando Mendoza is not the type you’d expect to have a single impure thought. The kid’s a model citizen and, from all estimations, a devout Catholic.

Yet here he was on national television, minutes removed from winning a national championship, dropping one of the raunchiest postgame comments ever.

The reigning Heisman passed for 186 yards and zero touchdowns. But he did score with his feet, and he had to do just about everything to reach the end zone.

The Indiana Hoosiers star spoke to ESPN’s Holly Rowe after the 27-21 win and opened up on the gutsy play.

Mendoza told Rowe he would take shots from the front or the back for his team while he explained his fourth-quarter heroics.

“They would do the same for me,” he added.

There’s no way this wouldn’t cause a stir online.

“excuse me, he would what for his team?” one fan asked.

“He did NOT have to say “from the front, from the back” 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭,” another comment read.

“fernando mendoza offering to take back shots for his team,” one user observed…

““If I gotta take shots from the front or back doesn’t matter.”- Fernando Mendoza Pause Worthy Quote of the Day,” someone else noted.

“Ayooo Fernando Mendoza just said he “would take shots from the front, the back, whatever they need”. Definition of a winner and team player,” offered one fan.

Fernando Mendoza will probably wish he’d kept that one in the drafts, but he’s got enough silverware to live it down.
