The Golden Bachelor fans are fearing Mel Owens will “screw up” one of his connections with a “classy” contestant.

On the Wednesday, Oct. 8 episode of the hit dating show, the 66-year-old leading man took Peg Munson on a one-on-one date.

Despite the ageist comments he made before the premiere, the former football player seemed to be having a good time with the 63-year-old firefighter, so much so that he ended the date by giving her a rose.

For Peg’s first-ever one-on-one with Mel, the two went to the Orange County Fair. As the two played some games, went on rides, and danced the night away, Mel admitted he was very intrigued by his date’s “high level of energy.”

“Today was the perfect day, she makes me happy,” he confessed.

The two also had a chance to get to a deeper level with each other. During a sit down, they bonded over shared past experiences.

At the end of their date, Mel confirmed his interest in his date by handing her a rose while on stage with KC and The Sunshine Band.

“I can see myself spending the rest of my life with this man,” Peg shared.

Not only did Peg have Mel swooning but also the viewers, as one X user said, “I like Peg! She’s got a good vibe.”

Another added, “Peg is cooler than I thought she would be and she chills Mel out!”

“I like her a lot!!!!! Classy woman & really pretty,” a third chimed in.

A few viewers even pointed out how the two “def have chemistry,” leaving them worrying something, or someone, could jeopardize their relationship.

A viewer claimed, “Mel is gonna screw this up with Peg. I feel it.”

Someone agreed, explaining, “Mel has no personality whatsoever and he’s not creating any depth in any of these relationships. He’s just like a robot going through the motions #GoldenBachelor.”

Fans’ concerns could also be stemming from the comments Mel made about his “preferences” before the premiere.

While appearing on MGoBlue Podcasts With Jon Jansen, he admitted to telling the producers, “If they’re 60 or over, I’m cutting them.”

After receiving immense backlash for his comment, he backtracked and explained he was going off of his reference from the last time he dated 26 years ago. Nevertheless, he still “apologized” to his contestants for his “unfair, insensitive” remarks. The Golden Bachelor airs Wednesdays on ABC.
