Lauren Alaina was the runner-up on the tenth season of American Idol. Since then, she’s had a prominent career as a country singer. Her debut studio album, Wildflower, came out in 2011.

Recently, Alaina made a powerful share on social media, where she discussed a tragic loss in her life: her father, J.J. Suddeth. The star previously shared that she lost her father back in July 2024. At the time, she thanked fans for their prayers and shared she was cancelling a few of her shows.

In her more recent post, Alaina opened up about the hard time she was going through, noting the loss was hitting her worse than his birthday or Father’s Day. Suddeth had d3alt with alcoholism in his life, with Alaina noting, “In a perfect world, we would be celebrating 13 years of his sobriety.” In the accompanying video, she explained that this day would have marked the milestone.

As she continued, Alaina shared, “Today I choose to honor him still. He was a proud father and pawpaw. He was a proud Army veteran. He was smart. He was kind. He was the funniest person I have ever met. He always had the answer to any question I had. He is so missed.”

As Alaina continued, she also had a message that she wanted to share with fans: to prioritize their own well-being. “Love yourself and others. Prioritize your mental health. Surround yourself with people who help you in your healing journey.” In her video, she also assured those who were “struggling” that they could find people who love them.

Concluding her post, Alaina shared that she wished her father had done these things when he was still alive. She also asked if any veteran organizations out there would benefit from some of her father’s belongings.

Fellow country singer Jake Owen also shared their condolences with Alaina with the recent post. As he wrote, “Amen. There’s plenty of love out here to comfort those that are lost . Proud of you Lauren.” Singer-songwriter Chase Matthew also wrote, “I admire your strength, love you Lauren.”
