Legendary South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw is reportedly in hospital after collapsing during a football game in which he was coaching.

Shaw, who joined the Cleveland Browns after a standout career with the Gamecocks, was coaching his nine-year-old son’s team when he passed out. He was taken to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital via ambulance.

The cause of the scare is unknown, with the Daily Mail reporting that there were no further developments as of Thursday morning, noting that the former QB was still receiving medical treatment.

“It is currently unclear what caused the 33-year-old’s collapse. As of Thursday morning, there has been no update on his status as he continues to receive medical treatment,” the Mail reported.

Shaw’s son, Decker Drew, plays flag football, and he coaches his team. Decker Drew is one of three children he has with his wife, Molly.

Connor Shaw was the starting quarterback at South Carolina from 2010 to 2013 and led the school to the most wins in its history back then. When he left college football, he had registered 6,074 passing yards and 56 touchdowns. He was inducted into the South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021.

The 33-year-old joined the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2014, making one appearance. Shaw completed 14 of 28 passes for 177 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception against the Baltimore Ravens after being elevated from the practice squad following injuries to fellow rookie Johnny Manziel and veteran Brian Hoyer.

The Browns lost 20-10.

Manziel did not go on to have that great a career in Cleveland either, and recently claimed to be “just a guy now” in a heartbreaking street interview.

Shaw joined the Chicago Bears in 2016 but did not make any appearances and then had a short stint as the quarterbacks coach at USC, taking up another role in player development thereafter.

We wish him a speedy recovery.
