Humane Sagar, who won The Voice of Odisha – part of The Voice franchise of shows – in 2012, di3d on Monday November 17 at the age of 34, as his mother alleged mistreatment by his manager. The news was confirmed in a media statement by the hospital after the star was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s emergency ward. He was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, acute chronic liver failure (ACLF), multi-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) and several other severe health conditions. He spent three days on life-support before succumbing to complications.

Following his d3ath his grieving mother Shefali Suna alleged the star was exploited and forced to continue performing despite deteriorating health. She alleged that his manager Sachin Vishwakarma made him continue to work meaning his condition went untreated. She added there was absolutely no negligence on the part of the doctors. Vishwakarma denied her allegations and issued a rebuttal which dismissed her claims outright.

He highlighted the singer’s own negligence when it came to his medical treatment and said his health issues – particularly his liver related ones – had been addressed by doctors before he fell fatally ill.

“Humane Sagar’s liver ailment was cured. However, he didn’t take medicines properly and neglected his health,” Odishatv reported Vishwakarma as saying.

He insisted Sagar had not been pressured into performing at any point suggesting the singer’s declining health came from his own lack of adherence to medical advice.

He said that several attempts were made to encourage Sagar to prioritise his well-being, but these warnings went unheeded.

Sagar married fellow The Voice star Shriya Mishra in 2017 after they met competing on the show and the couple have one daughter together.

He came from musical family. Following his Voice success he made his film debut in 2015’s Ishq Tu Hi Tu, where he sang the title track which became a huge hit. He sang over 100 songs in Odia movies.

Fans rushed to social media to pay tribute as the news broke. “In just 10yr of singing journey he became a Legend, irreplaceable.
Om shanti,” one penned on Facebook. “Looks like the music has stopped, but memories remain. Odisha lost a singing super star, RIP,” another added.

Meanwhile a third chimed in: “The Odia industry has lost a priceless gem. Your contribution to music will be cherished forever. With your extraordinary voice, you transformed Odia cinema and shaped an entirely new generation of music lovers. You didn’t just inspire the rising stars — you guided them, nurtured them, and helped countless artists grow with your wisdom and support.
Life is truly so uncertain. May his noble soul rest in peace.”
