Maksim “Maks” Chmerkovskiy has been part of Dancing with the Stars for years. However, an inside source recently hinted that recent comments from the dancer might have put his future on the show into jeopardy. However, another source recently shared a different take on the story.

Maks Chmerkovskiy First Joined Dancing With The Stars In Its Second Season

Chmerkovskiy, who was born in the Ukraine before moving to Brooklyn with his family, first joined Dancing with the Stars back the show’s second season, where he was partnered with Tia Carrere. Since then, he has been paired with a variety of stars, including Willa Ford, Brandy Norwood, Melissa Gilbert, and Vanessa Lachey.

During his time on the show, Chmerkovskiy has made it to the final round at least five times. He has also occasionally served as a guest judge.

Recently, Chmerkovskiy appeared on his spouse Peta Murgatroyd’s podcast, “The Penthouse With Peta.” During the conversation, he had a few choice words for some recent additions to the show, including dancer Jan Ravnik.

Chmerkovskiy’s Comments Might Have Sparked Issues With Dancers Who ‘Agreed’ With His Stance

During the podcast, Chmerkovskiy shared, “I’m sorry, Jan has absolutely no business being a pro on Dancing with the Stars.” He also claimed Ravnik, a former dancer for Taylor Swift, had “zero foundation technique, quality,” or “understanding of the partnership.”

Peta proved to be more sympathetic, noting, “He’s learning. He’s learning slowly. It’s his first season. We have to give him grace for not understanding foxtrot technique. It’s very hard to watch.” However, her husband shared, “No, we do not have to give him grace. Are you kidding me?”

Recently, an insider spoke with The Daily Mail, noting Chmerkovskiy’s comments could get him in trouble on the show. Interestingly, his comments were reportedly said to have sparked tensions with pro dancers believed to “agree” with his comments. That said, the source felt, “[The dancers] don’t want to jeopardize their own career [by saying they agree with Maks].”

The source claimed that the show’s executives “couldn’t care less” about the comments. However, they noted that Chmerkovskiy won’t be likely “welcomed back as a guest judge or dancer… now that he trashed Jan.”

That said, a second insider shared a more neutral stance over Chmerkovskiy’s comments. As they noted, Chmerkovskiy was only “critiquing” Ravnik’s ballroom dancing skills and “he did not slam his character.” They continued, “He just said he was not a ballroom dancer. Producers did not give [Ravnik] a quick step this season and I don’t think that’s an accident. They play to the dancers’ strengths.”

As previously reported, Chmerkovskiy has also since apologized for his comments. Taking to TikTok, he shared, “I want to apologize to Jan for the way my words had made you feel, for hurting your feelings,” even sharing that he wanted to meet Ravnik in person to apologize.
