During the first season, fans were introduced to professional hockey rivals Ilya Rozanov (Connor) and Shane Hollander (Hudson), who secretly started hooking up and eventually fell in love.

In the finale, Ilya and Shane were discovered mid-kiss by Shane’s bewildered father, and the secret is out.

The couple decided to plan a way to come out publicly after their eventual retirement, but fans were left not knowing how it all plays out.

According to show creator Jacob Tierney and Connor’s recent comments, the second season will follow the plot of Rachel Reid’s book, The Long Game. (Heated Rivalry is based on the Canadian author’s Game Changer book series.)

“Start reading The Long Game if you want spoilers,” said Connor.

“We’re following Shane and Ilya. That’s not gonna be a shock,” Jacob previously revealed.

According to The Long Game recaps, Shane and Ilya remain in an exclusive but secret relationship a few years after Season 1 left viewers.

Ilya moves from Boston to Ottawa in order to be closer to Shane, who is still playing for the fictional Montreal Metros. (Ilya previously played

Despite being physically closer together, the couple hits a bumpy road when Ilya suffers from depression, as he struggles over the tragic suicide death of his mother when he was just 12 years old.

While Ilya copes with mental health struggles, Shane is still focused on his hockey career – leading to a major fight.

But the pair remain together, and Shane proposes after Ilya faces a near-death experience on a team flight.

CAUGHT IN PUBLIC

Despite being on the same page, the couple faces another major hurdle when they are caught kissing in a viral video.

As the hockey league pressures them to deny their romance and claim the kiss was a joke, Shane and Ilya decide to strand strong and take a different approach.

The pair then come out as a couple in a social media post.

Shane and Ilya then get married, and plan to have children.

Also, Shane joins Ilya in Ottawa – with both playing for the same team, the Centaurs.
