The earlier reports revealed that three people were injured during the ill-fated ordeal, with two being transported by emergency crews and the third driving themself to the hospital. However, unfortunately, one of them lost their life.

According to reports, the victim killed in a shooting at Old Dominion University on March 6, 2026 (ET), has been identified as a military science professor and ROTC instructor at the school. According to officials, the man who lost his life in the ill-fated shooting was Lt. Col. Brandon Shah. He was listed on the university’s website as a professor of military science in Old Dominion University’s Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and served as the department chair. According to reports, Brandon hailed from Virginia and joined the Army in 2003 as an Aviation Operations Specialist. In addition, he was also a graduate of Old Dominion University, earned an MBA from the University of Georgia, and an MS in Engineering Management from the University of Kansas.
What happened at Old Dominion University?

According to reports, the shooting took place on the morning of March 12, 2026 (ET), around 10:50 a.m. inside Constant Hall on the Old Dominion University campus. As soon as the shots were heard, the University police, Norfolk Police and emergency crews were called to the location. Soon it was revealed that there were three people injured in the shooting, with two of them being emergent while the third drove themself to the medical facility for treatment. However, it was during a later press briefing that the authorities confirmed one of the victims had died. The other two are now in stable conditions and recovering under medical care. Officials have confirmed that the gunman is also dead.
Who is the suspect in the Old Dominion University shooting?

The suspected shooter was later identified as well, and the official reports have shared his identity as Mohamed Bailor Jalloh. He was a former member of the Army National Guard. However, this wasn’t his first tiff with legal. He was previously sentenced to 11 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to providing material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), now referred to as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The DOJ has revealed that Jalloh tried to help get weapons for what he believed was going to be an attack on U.S. soil committed in the name of ISIS, and also helped provide money to individuals who would be willing to join ISIS.

Virginia lawmakers, including Virginia Governor, Abigail Spanberger, have reacted to the demise of Lt. Col. Brandon Shah and Old Dominion University. She took to X account and posted a heartfelt note expressing her sadness over the incident and the passing of the young armyman. Her post could be read as:
“Lt. Col. Brandon Shah was killed today in his classroom at Old Dominion University. A devoted ROTC instructor, Lt. Col. Shah didn’t just lead a life of service to our country, he taught and led others to follow that path. I am grateful for his example, deeply saddened by his death, and praying for his family. Amid this tragedy, I thank the brave students, first responders, and law enforcement officers who responded quickly to today’s horrific attack.”
