Israel made a very expensive mistake.
The Israel Defense Forces recently published footage showing an airstrike on an Iranian Mi-17 helicopter. However, questions have been raised about what actually happened in the footage.
On Feb. 28, the US and Israel launched an unprovoked war of aggression on Iran. They dropped bombs on cities across the country and called for regime change. The Iranian leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in an airstrike.
Unfortunately, amid the war, there have been some mistakes. In the first wave of attacks, at least 175 people were killed when a school was struck. Multiple US fighter jets were downed over Kuwait in “an apparent friendly fire incident” while flying in support of the US-Israeli hostilities with Iran.
A female fighter was approached by locals, who provided care. However, a male pilot had to plead his case as locals tried to attack him.
As the bombing continues, the death toll is rising in Iran and across the region. There was also one moment where loss of life could’ve happened, but forces in the air got fooled.

The Israeli army releases footage appearing to show a strike on what it described as an Iranian Mi-17 helicopter. Unfortunately for them, the object appears to be a painted decoy.
Footage published by the IDF shows an airstrike against a group of Iranian soldiers operating an air defence system. As you can see below, nothing has been moved on the fake helicopter. Not even the helicopter’s blades moved.
Patricia Marins, an independent analyst focusing on defence and security, shared her take. She said the supposed helicopter hit may have been an anamorphic painting on asphalt rather than an operational aircraft.
Marins suggested that Iran could be using large-scale ground art to deceive Israeli and US aerial attacks. It certainly worked here. She also referenced similar tactics allegedly used by Russia during the 2023 war in Ukraine to mislead satellite imagery.
You can fully expect tricks like this to continue as the war progresses.
