After news had come out that Janai Norman was leaving Good Morning America, the co-anchor herself shared her side of the story on social media. During the share, she also hinted at what might have happened behind the scenes. In addition, a few other Good Morning America crew members have also shared their reactions to the story.

Janai Norman’s Good Morning America Exit Was First Shared In A Newsletter

Norman first joined ABC News in 2011 in New York as an intern. She rejoined the network in 2016 as a correspondent.

As previously reported, news had come out that Janai would soon be leaving the show. At the time, it was unclear if she would be staying with the network in some form or leaving altogether.

Norman herself has since confirmed the news in a recent share on Instagram. During the video, she shared that she would have liked more time on the show, suggesting it wasn’t her idea to leave, at least so soon.

In the video, Norman shared, “I’d hoped that we’d have more time. It’s been hard on me that our time was cut short. I have loved my job. It has been a joy to connect with my coworkers and with viewers to help keep you informed and entertained and to create this community.”

Some Of Norman’s GMA Co-Stars Also Wished Her Well On Social Media

As Norman continued, she suggested that she already had her last day on the show. She explained, “So, it really breaks my heart that I don’t get to say goodbye. I’m so sorry that I don’t get to say goodbye. It would have been fun.”

However, Norman did look on the positive side of things, feeling that she would now have more time to spend with family. Norman currently has three children, having welcomed her youngest, a boy, back in late 2023. As she explained, “I have these three young kids, and I have worked weekends their whole lives. Now they get more of me. And that is worth everything.”

The news of Norman’s exit was originally shared in a Status newsletter. At the time, it wasn’t clear what Norman’s next steps would be. Her replacement on the show also hasn’t yet been announced.

Norman shared her post on both Instagram and X. Thanks to this, fans were able to express their well-wishes with her at this time. She also got responses from other Good Morning America alumni. Whit Johnson, for example, wrote, “Truly grateful for the endless memories and moments. Cheering you on through your next adventure.” Some other comments included:

“Great loss here with weekend GMA.”
“You were the reason I watched GMA on the weekends! Hug your babies tight, breathe, and know that the best is yet to come.”
“Oh Janai, this makes my heart so sad. You, Whit, and Gio were the dream team. You are an incredible journalist and anchor.”
“This is SUCH a loss. What is ABC/GMA thinking?!”
