Johnny Manziel has shared his two cents on the Bill Belichick /Jordon Hudson situation at the University of North Carolina.

Belichick is entering his first season as the head coach of the Tar Heels and is 2-2 in his first four games. His latest outing resulted in a 34-9 blowout loss to the University of Central Florida on Saturday.

While his relationship with Hudson has little to do with what happens on the field, she’s definitely become a distraction. Bill’s 24-year-old girlfriend has been unconventional in that she’s often seen in places where coaches’ wives or girlfriends are not typically seen.

The former cheerleader was spotted chatting with the UNC HC on the sideline in a short miniskirt and tall boots ahead of Saturday’s loss, with the appearance prompting a wild, viral AI video. She was also seen speaking to other coaches before the game.

Hudson’s actions don’t violate any rules, but they have attracted negative scrutiny and shifted the focus from football, although she insists she isn’t a distraction.

Johnny Manziel Doesn’t Get It

Manziel, who appeared on the ‘Nightcap’ podcast with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson on Sunday, said he doesn’t understand why Belichick and Hudson would put themselves in such a position, especially since it’s so easily avoidable.

“The girlfriend stuff, you don’t see it anywhere else in college football,” he said. “The media has definitely jumped on it and made it a big thing, maybe even bigger than it is.”

He later added:

“It almost gets to the point like why the f— would you do it? Like, why? You know you’re just adding more scrutiny and more things to the pot. Like, honey, sit in the suite. Baby girl, I’ll see you after the game. What are we talking about? It’s obviously a problem. It’s obviously an issue. People look at it, and they’re talking about it every single week. Doesn’t make sense to me, and it’s so un-Belichick.”

Sharpe recalls Belichick preaching to his players that they should limit distractions and ensure the narrative is always about football.

“Now, people are talking about things that are not football-related,” the host said. “So the biggest distraction created at in at the University of Chapel Hill is Bill Belichick and his extracurricular act.”

“I agree. It’s odd,” Manziel said in response. “It doesn’t coincide with everything that he’s been about about football throughout the entire entirety of his whole career. I would think that somebody within the higher ups of North Carolina kind of be like, ‘What what what exactly is this? What what are we doing here?’

Belichick, Hudson, and the Tar Heels have a bye this week. They will resume their season against Clemson on October 4.
