Joy Taylor Says NFL Quarterback Evaluators Are “Completely Clueless” After Shedeur Sanders’ Draft Slide, & Immediately Gets Roasted For Awful Take
Everyone suddenly became an NFL Draft expert after Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders fell from a projected first round pick to the fifth round.
By this point, I’m sure you are tired of hearing about Deion Sanders’ son Shedeur not getting drafted in the first round. Well, if you clicked on this story, you’ve still got a little bit of gas left in the tank I suppose. If anything, this wild take from FS1’s Joy Taylor should get you back in the mood to hear banter about what round Shedeur Sanders should have been drafted in.
In case you were living under a rock during the 2025 NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders was FINALLY drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round with the 144th pick. Just a couple months ago, Sanders was a lock by many draft analysts to not only be a first round pick but a top 10 pick.
I’m sure Shedeur was just happy to finally have his name was called, but unfortunately, the Cleveland Browns don’t have the best track record when it comes to drafting quarterbacks and having them become successful. Maybe Shedeur Sanders can change that trend though… especially with how fired up he’ll be to prove himself after the unprecedented slide.
You know who has been really fired up about Shedeur Sanders being drafted in the fifth round? Sports media. Almost every talking head across all sports networks has tried to figure out why the former Colorado QB – who led his team to 13-11 record in his two seasons in college – would all of the sudden not want Sanders as their franchise quarterback. And not one of them has simply stated, “Maybe the talent evaluators just didn’t think he was all that great.”
Fox Sports’ Joy Taylor evidently can’t even fathom thinking that, because yesterday on FS1’s Speak, she decided to eviscerate quarterback evaluators, saying:
“With all due respect, I don’t care about quarterback evaluators. You don’t know what you are talking about. You literally don’t know what you are talking about. You’re guessing, and sometimes you are right, and most of the time, you are super wrong.
They don’t know how to evaluate the QB position. I say that with an immense amount of respect. You don’t know what you are talking about. There is an insurmountable amount of evidence that you are completely clueless when it comes to evaluating quarterbacks.”
Alright Joy Taylor… pump the brakes.
First off, you can’t just say “with all due respect” before saying nasty things about someone else and expect like what you said isn’t hurtful. Taylor is absolutely ripping the profession that some people in the NFL actually have – evaluating QBs – and then saying she has an immense amount of respect for them.
CLEARLY YOU DON’T.
Second, there’s a lot more to this Shedeur Sanders situation than meets the eye. If I were a sports commentator on one of the various yell-at-each-other sports programs on TV, I’d give it some time before I said that NFL talent evaluators were wrong. Now if Sanders ends up as as the starter for the Cleveland Browns, and brings them success, then I feel like it’s open season to call out quarterback evaluators.
But here’s the deal… NFL quarterback evaluators are actually pretty good at their job. Not every high draft pick works out. We all know that. That’s why there are things called “busts.” But more often than not, quarterbacks that are drafted in the first round, or at least the first or second round, have a decent chance to be successful, while late round quarterbacks are rarely successful in the league. Of course there is exceptions like Brock Purdy and Tom Brady, but overall, the list is slim.
In fact, the list of current starting quarterbacks that were drafted outside of the top 50 picks is pretty short, as this X user pointed out:
The truth is, the NFL has a much bigger problem with developing quarterbacks, compared to evaluating their talent. But it’s really as simple as this: if an NFL team thought that Shedeur Sanders could take them to the promised land, they would have picked him regardless of whatever outside factors there were. Teams are more likely to put up with distractions as long as winning isn’t sacrificed.
So NFL evaluators – across all 32 teams – pretty much unanimously agreed that Shedeur Sanders wasn’t a first round pick… or a second round pick, or a third round pick. Joy Taylor apparently can’t understand why that would happen, and that’s why social media is calling her out about her take:
