According to eyewitnesses, the altercation between Karmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalf stemmed from a disagreement over seating during a track meet between their two schools. Anthony was asked to leave a seating area and made a conditional threat, telling Austin, “Touch me and see what happens.”

He is said to have pulled a knife out of his bag after Austin grabbed him, then “st@bbed Austin once in the chest and then ran away.”
