During the 2026 WNBA season, Kelsey Plum played in 12 games for the Los Angeles Sparks before being sidelined by a lower leg injury on June 21. Prior to her injury, she posted career-high numbers and was named an All-Star.
Right before the WNBA trade deadline, the Los Angeles Sparks traded Plum to the Phoenix Mercury. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, her 23.9 PPG average is the highest scoring average for any player traded midseason in WNBA history.
The Los Angeles Sparks received guard Monique Akoa Makani in the deal. They also got a 2027 first-round draft pick and a 2028 second-round draft pick. The Sparks chose to trigger a rebuild rather than risk losing Plum for nothing.
She is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2026 season. Plum is expected to make her debut for Phoenix immediately as they push for a late-season playoff spot alongside Kahleah Copper and Alyssa Thomas.
