Larsa Pippen summed up what was likely the entire basketball world’s reaction to the dramatic California vs. Notre Dame showdown at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley on Friday night, a game decided by Dai Dai Ames’ game-winning four-point play for the Golden Bears. California features her son, Justin Pippen.

Chaos followed the final horn, as Notre Dame coach Micah Shrewsberry angrily charged toward referee Adam Flore after the buzzer. Flore had whistled a foul on Ames’ 3-point attempt with five seconds remaining, a call that led to the made shot and ensuing free throw that sealed California’s 72-71 victory.

Posting a series of live reactions on Instagram Stories as the game ended, Larsa Pippen rode a wave of emotions.

“These games are so freaking stressful, I can’t even take it,” she said.

When the buzzer sounded and Shrewsberry had to be restrained by his players and assistants as he moved toward Flore, Larsa added:

“Oh my gosh, the coach wants to fight now? But let’s go. I will take this win gladly.”

Justin Pippen turned in a strong performance, finishing with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Ames, the hero of the night, poured in 23 points and knocked down a team-high four 3-pointers.

For Notre Dame, Braedan Shrewsberry led the way with 21 points, while Jalen Haralson scored 17 and Cole Certa added 16.

Justin Pippen began his college career at Michigan, where he averaged just 6.7 minutes per game and 1.6 points over 28 appearances off the bench as a freshman.

After entering the transfer portal, he landed at California, where he has carved out a significant role. Through 13 games, all starts, he is averaging 14.8 points, 4.2 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.

In December, Golden Bears coach Mark Madsen praised Pippen’s development.

“Justin Pippen is coming into his own,” he said (per Michigan Live). “His game is unfolding naturally in front of the university, the fans, his teammates. And he’s a great team player.”

Madsen also highlighted the guard’s all-around contributions, noting that he has scored in double figures in all but two games and set a career high with 24 points in December.

“He leads us in blocked shots. He’s one of our top guys in deflections, if not our leader,” Madsen said. “As a point guard, he has a tremendous feel for when to attack and when to back the ball out, call a play and execute.”
