The NBA realm has once again been shaken up by the Los Angeles Lakers. And this time it’s not a blockbuster player trade. Owned by the Buss family since 1979, the Lakers will be sold in a historic deal shortly. According to reports, it will mark the most expensive sale of a US sports team in history. Surprisingly, both Luka Doncic and LeBron James are quite ‘excited’ about the same.
According to Dave McMenamin of ‘ESPN,’ Doncic and James both have shared their excitement. The superstar duo is looking forward to how the new owners will be taking the franchise to new heights. In fact, Doncic also posted on X, conveying his desire to win championships in the future with the new ownership.
In a surprising development, the Buss family entered an agreement with Mark Walter. Valued at $10 billion, Walter will now be owning a majority share of the Lakers. And this means that the financial crunch will be left behind to a certain extent. Till now, the Buss family had significant problems in managing the finance. With an influx of cash coming in, the Lakers can now channel their finances to better scouting. Meanwhile, another Lakers’ legend, Magic Johnson too, seemed extremely excited.

Johnson has always had his heart with the Lakers. Now, with the sale coming in, Johnson has expressed his happiness. The news was first reported by Shams Charania of ESPN.’ And as soon as Johnson heard that the Lakers were valued at $10 billion, his happiness knew no bounds.
“Just like I thought, when the Celtics sold for $6B, I knew the Lakers were worth $10B!” Johnson wrote on X.
Thus, with things looking rosy for the Lakers, it now remains to be seen what happens next.
