A tense exchange developed late in the second quarter of Thursday’s contest. The Dallas Wings held a narrow lead against the Indiana Fever at that stage.
At the time, Bueckers attempted an intentional foul with time winding down. This is usually done when a team has a foul to give. Bueckers reached for Caitlin Clark’s arm in an effort to stop the clock.
The contact failed to draw an immediate call from the referees. In addition, a second grab led to further entanglement between the two guards. Clark reacted by pulling away, flinging her arm, and then tossing the basketball across the floor.

Paige Bueckers immediately noticed the defensive aggression and took matters into her own hands. Instead of ignoring the situation, she quickly stepped up to address the intense physical play directly.
She looked at Caitlin and yelled, “Calm down,” as she held out her hand.
Bueckers managed 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists while focusing heavily on playmaking and defensive execution. Clark struggled heavily against the Wings’ defensive schemes. Sh finished with a quiet 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 9 assists on 4-of-15 shooting from the field.
