Lorenzen Wright was selected with the No. 7 pick in the 1996 NBA Draft after starring on the collegiate level for the Memphis Tigers.
He would go on to spend 13 seasons in the league with various teams that included the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and Cleveland Cavaliers before he ultimately retired in 2009.
Lorenzen was tragically murd3red just shortly after his career was finished. His case essentially went cold as there were no convictions for nine years, until this month when Wright’s ex-wife plead guilty to his murd3r.
Via AP:
“The ex-wife of slain former NBA player Lorenzen Wright pleaded guilty Thursday to facilitation of first-degree murd3r in his shooting d3ath nine years ago, a surprise development in one of the biggest murd3r cases in the history of Memphis.
Sherra Wright also pleaded guilty to facilitation of a criminal attempt to commit first-degree murd3r in a hearing in Shelby County Criminal Court. Judge Lee Coffee sentenced her to 30 years in prison. Coffee said Wright would be eligible for parole once she served 30% of her sentence, which would be around nine years.
Sherra Wright had been scheduled to face a jury in a September trial on first-degree murd3r charges in the d3ath of her ex-husband. His body was found riddled with gunshot wounds in a swampy field in suburban Memphis in July 2010. He had been missing for 10 days before his body was found.”
What makes this case even more disturbing is an old 2015 video showing Sherra Wright’s commenting on the murd3r where she was asked flat out if she had anything to do with it. Her response came in the form of telling the public she ‘a mother, a wife, and an author’ and she would let the police do the investigating.
She may have been calm, but now those comments sound downright cold and calculating. Hopefully, she never sees the light of day again.
