Lucas Leon, a 17-year-old high school student from Gallatin, Tennessee, wowed the American Idol judges with his unique name, charming personality, impressive vocals and original song.

As Leon entered the Idol audition room, Luke Bryan immediately began comparing the young contestant‘s look to his own son, Bo, noting their striking resemblance. Bryan even stopped to show him a photo he recently took of his son to highlight their uncanny similarity.

“Oh my gosh. You look like my child. Look at this. Hold on. So I took this picture of Bo the other day… They could be brothers,” Bryan said with a laugh, before asking Leon to introduce himself and explain what he does “up there in Gallatin.”

“I’m Lucas Leon, I’m 17 years old [and] I’m from Gallatin, Tennessee. I play a lot of music, write a lot of songs, do some fishing,” Leon shared. “Lucas Leon, I love [that name], that’s sounds like a star name,” Bryan continued. “What [are] they biting on out there these days,” Bryan asked.

Leon replied, “Baby brush hog… Texas rig.” Carrie Underwood chimed in, “Now he sounds like my son. He fishes all day every day.”

Lucas Leon then went on to make a lasting impression on the Idol judges with an original song, titled “Fall In Love Someday.” Donning a sage green crewneck sweatshirt and jeans and strumming his Martin acoustic guitar, the 17-year-old Tennessean confidently belted out the lyrics to the track he co-wrote alongside songwriter Kaleb Thomas Jones and Smith Curry.

“Love waits down the road/ I just wonder what’s the cost if you’d ever know/ cause I’m a young gun in an old 4runner rolling the coast/ I’m tumbling down Route 66 sitting with her ghost/ so roll me to Arizona, Texas or Mexico/ send me by a desert fire/ let it be my home/ I ain’t one for love, and I ain’t quick to pray/ but I swear to God, I’ll fall in love someday,” Leon sang.

His gritty vocals earned praise and a standing ovation from the three Idol judges, Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan.

“We’re all standing,” Underwood shouted as she applauded his audition. “It’s like your baby face and you’re adorable. But there’s this odd, awesome maturity. I feel like you could go pretty far in this competition.”

Richie quickly added, “Pure, honest, and very talented.”

Bryan, who was seen scrolling on his phone, explained that he was “checking on notable people from Gallatin, Tennessee,” prompting Richie to ask, “Tell us, is he on that list?”

Much to their surprise, there were no country singers listed. Instead, the notable names from the Gallatin area included Zach Duke, a former MLB pitcher who played for numerous teams such as the Pittsburgh Pirates, Arizona Diamondbacks, Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Twins, Seattle Mariners, and Cincinnati Reds, as well as John William “Bud” Rogan, the second-tallest verified human ever documented, who stood an astonishing 8 feet 9 inches tall.

“Not really seeing any notable singers. Maybe old Lucas Leon got a spot here on the Wikipedia,” Bryan said with a smile. “I’m just having fun with you. Really great stuff you’re doing at the age of 17, and you have it all. So thank you for bringing your old butt down here to us. And yeah, it’s a big old yes for me.”

Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie then voted ‘yes,’ securing him a golden ticket. “Idol gold,” Bryan added, while Richie gushed, “Star, star, star, star, star right here,” as he marked five stars on his sheet next to Lucas’ name.

After earning a golden ticket to Hollywood week, which will take place in Music City this year, Lucas Leon shared, “Definitely hoping I can join on the Wikipedia page for Gallatin, Tennessee. That would be great.”
