Furious NFL fans think that Patrick Mahomes talked the referees into picking up a flag that would have nullified his first-quarter touchdown pass to Travis Kelce against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Patrick Mahomes capped off a surgical drive with a two-yard touchdown to Kelce, the latter’s second score of the season. The referees threw a flag on the play and were about to call JuJu Smith-Schuster for offensive pass interference on a pick play, only to pick it up after a discussion.

Mahomes went to speak to the officials to plead his case. The head referee, Brad Rogers, then announced there was no flag and upheld the touchdown:

And, well, you can guess how fans reacted to this.

“mahomes legit told the refs what to do 😭,” a fan said.

“lol, ignore the obvious foul. Notice how the Chiefs knew as well, running over to argue basically the whole team…,” another commented.

“If Mahomes cries enough the Chiefs will always get their way,” wrote a user.

“Mahomes tells the refs it’s not a flag and the chiefs go up 7. Jags have to get their money up and start paying the refs,” a fan said.

“i just watched Mahomes bully the ref into picking up the flag 😭😭😭,” said another.

And to think that internet detectives had accused the referees of “fixing” the game for the Chiefs before kickoff. Whether the officials want it or not, they’ll never shut down the accusations of benefiting Kansas City if they keep getting the right calls.
