If Mike Vrabel thought his cheating scandal was over, he was reminded this week that it wasn’t.
The New England Patriots head coach and Dianna Russini became the center of a tabloid scandal in April 2026. It was after the New York Post published photos of them holding hands, hugging, and relaxing together at a luxury resort in Sedona, Arizona.
Page Six released images of Vrabel and Russini—who are both married to other people—at the Ambiente hotel. Both Vrabel and Russini vehemently denied any romantic connection, with Vrabel calling the suggestions “laughable.” Unfortunately, this was no laughing matter.
As The Athletic launched an internal review, Russini ultimately chose to resign. As additional archival photos and sightings surfaced from other locations over the preceding years, public pressure mounted.
Now, with weeks until the 2026 season, Mike Vrabel is still answering questions about it.
Patriots Media Session Takes A Highly Personal Turn As Mike Vrabel Faces Intrusive Questioning

During a routine media availability session on Tuesday, the atmosphere turned remarkably tense within the opening four minutes. Instead of focusing entirely on upcoming tactical strategies, a reporter pivoted directly to the coach’s domestic life.
Specifically, ESPN journalist Kalyn Kahler pressed the veteran leader regarding his previously disclosed efforts to seek relationship guidance.
Consequently, head coach Mike Vrabel was forced to navigate a series of deeply personal inquiries in front of cameras.
“You said this off-season that you were seeking counseling,” Kahler said. “I wanted to follow up on that. What did you learn from that counseling, and how did you balance that personal commitment with getting ready for this season?”
“Well, I think we always look at improvement, you know, as we talk about getting ready for the next season,” Vrabel replied.
“We always look at improvement and ways that we can improve individually and, you know, how we can improve as a team. And it’s really critical that we continue to do that, on and off the field.
“I believe in that. I believe in everything we can do to help this football team, to help our coaches, to help myself and everybody else included, and how we, you know, this journey that we’re going to go on, you know, is going to be completely different than the one we went on last year.
Vrabel’s Pivot Away Only Led To Another Personal Question

Mike Vrabel tried his best to get away from the personal question, but it did not work. Kahler was determined to get the answers that she came for. Kalyn Kahler asked him a follow-up question about whether he would continue counseling “through the season.”
“We’re gonna always try and find ways to prepare and focus on our mental fitness. That’s gonna continue with me, the coaches, the staff, and our players,” he replied. Vrabel then changed the subject to joint practices.
Mike Vrabel first announced he was seeking counseling in late April 2026 to become the “best husband, father, and coach” possible. He took a brief hiatus on Day 3 to attend an emergency meeting with his wife, Jen.
The best way to get away from this situation is to win on the field.
