Last month, it was revealed that Caitlin Clark would return to The Annika Pro-Am and that Fever teammates Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull would serve as Clark’s celebrity caddies for the event.

The event at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, also featured U.S. Soccer legend Briana Scurry, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, and NASCAR driver Carson Hocevar.

Clark is playing alongside World No. 2 Nelly Korda, one of the top golfers on the planet, and former Northwestern standout Lauryn Nguyen for the 18-hole charity showcase.

After taking a shot off the tee on Wednesday, Sophie Cunningham decided to get in on the action.

The Fever guard, whose season ended early after tearing her ACL, stepped to hit the ball off the tee, but it went off to the right and seemingly struck some spectators.

Clark had to tell Cunningham that an elderly man was down on the ground, not because he actually got hit, but because he knew he could get a hug from Cunningham. Soon, more men would join him on the ground.

In August, Cunningham was standing under the basket playing defense while driving, when Sun guard Bria Hartley fell into her lower left leg after making a pass. The Indiana Fever guard, who could be seen yelling in pain, had to be helped to her feet and was later ruled out of the game.

That would be the final time she would be on the floor.

Cunningham tore the MCL in her right knee. It came months after she signed a one-year deal with Indiana for the 2025 season and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2026.

When healthy, though, Cunningham was a key contributor as a part-time starter for the Fever in a strong debut campaign with her new team. The seven-year veteran spent her first six seasons with Phoenix after being drafted No. 13 overall in 2019.

“I’m not the most patient person. I do pray for patience, but I kind of let myself out of that cast without a doctor’s order,” she said on her “Show Me Something” podcast.

She averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists across 30 games and 13 starts.

Sophie Cunningham has progressed well in her rehab, especially if she is generating power to make swings on the golf course. She should be more than healthy to be on the court for the 2026 WNNBA season.
