I just finished Netflix’s The Beast in Me, a show I liked right up until the very end, where I believe the ending that was crafted here was a total cop-out. I won’t get into spoilers, but you can read that article here if you like. Rather, today, we have some surprising news about The Beast in Me season 2, something I didn’t really expect to be possible.
The Beast in Me is a miniseries, though once again, is attempting to head toward the “so successful we keep it going anyway” line that some shows manage to break through like Shogun and The White Lotus. Here, we have an update on this front from the showrunner, Howard Gordon, speaking to People. He was asked if there was potential for a season 2:
“Always. We’ll see how the show does and I would say if there’s a story, we would be open to it.”
The Beast in Me is doing well. It arrived at #1 on Netflix’s top 10 list on November 13 and has stayed there since, only unseated today by the usual WWE Monday Night RAW airing. But it will probably be back on top soon, and maybe could stay there until Stranger Things, for all we know.

The Beast in Me
Netflix
The Beast in Me is not based on a book, so there is no more source material to draw on. It would seem to be extremely difficult to continue, given the events of the ending (spoilers follow).
The end of the show features the death of Matthew Rhys’ Niles, meaning he wouldn’t return as some recurring villain to torment Aggie. Aggie, meanwhile, has sold a best-selling book about her scary time with Niles. I suppose the idea here is now that she’s a successful crime writer, she could get attached to a new, different case. It’s also not out of the question they could turn The Beast in Me into a sort of anthology. New characters, new case, similar to what Presumed Innocent is doing over on Apple TV for its second season.
As for me, I’m all good in terms of The Beast in Me season 2. Matthew Rhys was the best part about the show, and I would argue Claire Danes and her never-ending lip quiver was the worst. I don’t particularly care to see more of the adventures of Aggie, but if the showrunner, Danes and Netflix all agree, who knows, maybe this will happen after all.
