Details have emerged following the Cowboys’ decision to release Trevon Diggs.

The Dallas Cowboys released Trevon Diggs under less-than-amicable circumstances, according to an NFL insider.

Both Diggs brothers made the news for the wrong reasons on Tuesday. Trevon got cut by the Cowboys, and Stefon, a wide receiver for the New England Patriots, is in legal trouble.

The Pats star is facing serious criminal charges, including felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery.

According to Jordan Schultz, there was some contention between parties in Dallas after the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback asked for time off over the holidays.

Diggs is said to have asked Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer for permission to remain in Washington after playing the Commanders.

The player is from the area, and his family stays there. He would have flown right back after heading to Dallas, but the HC is said to have denied the request.

It appears that the tension culminated in the player’s release on Tuesday. Ironically, it was on the same day news of his brother’s legal trouble broke.

“Players often ask for — and are usually granted — additional family time during the holidays if the schedule makes sense (Dallas played Thursday),” Schultz noted.

Trevon Diggs Still Owed Several Millions

It’s probably safe to assume that the concussion Diggs suffered at home had something to do with the soured relationship.

Dallas is still on the hook for the player’s payment for his last game. He also had $8.5 million guaranteed, while non-guaranteed money already paid is lost.

Still, they will free up $14.5 million in salary for 2026 and are expected to save around $6 million against the cap.

They could use that money to re-sign George Pickens. The wide receiver had a remarkable first season but is headed into free agency.
