New Footage Shows Moment Bears WR Luther Burden III Suffered Leg Injury At Practice

Luther Burden left Chicago Bears practice early on Saturday. The young wide receiver tangled with cornerback Tyrique Stevenson during a red-zone one-on-one drill. He landed awkwardly and immediately showed discomfort.
A trainer walked with Burden as he limped slowly toward the locker room. He favored his left leg the entire way. Officials have not released any formal diagnosis yet.
Physical therapist and injury analyst Jeff Mueller shared slow-motion video of the play. The clip highlights the exact moment of contact and Burden’s reaction. Mueller noted that many will focus on the left Achilles and step-back.
He remains hopeful about the knee.
“I do think he got his knee back fast enough where we don’t need to be concerned there,” Mueller wrote. The video also shows possible contact near the groin area.

Mueller pointed out that Tyrique Stevenson landed more on Burden’s right side. That detail reduces concern for a left-side MCL, ACL, or high-ankle sprain. The limp still looked noticeable as Burden left the field.
“It honestly looks like he took a shot to the family jewels but not sure that would cause him to limp the way he did into the locker room,” Mueller added. A simple groin strain remains one possible explanation.
Burden has been one of the brightest spots in camp. Head coach Ben Johnson has praised his athleticism and chemistry with quarterback Caleb Williams. The Bears need him after trading DJ Moore earlier this offseason.

Burden caught 47 passes for 652 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie. He is expected to step into a larger role this season. Any missed time would force the team to lean more on Rome Odunze and veterans such as Kalif Raymond.
Stevenson also felt the impact of the collision but stayed in practice. Safety Cam Lewis left the same session with his own issue. The Bears have dealt with multiple injuries during camp.
