The NFL recently made history by staging its first-ever regular-season game in Australia on Thursday.
The league chose a fierce division rivalry, pitting the San Francisco 49ers against the Los Angeles Rams. Remarkably, tickets for the international event completely sold out in just 30 minutes. Ultimately, the game drew an astonishing crowd of 100,021 fans into the massive oval stadium.
Before the game could get started, the National Anthem had to be delivered.

The New York-based soft rock band Infinity Song performed the U.S. national anthem at the historic NFL Melbourne Game. They had the honor of taking the stage before the San Francisco 49ers faced the Los Angeles Rams.

In the midst of their rendition, there was an uproar happening online. Their pregame performance sparked heavy backlash online from football fans watching the broadcast. According to critics, the band’s soft, acoustic rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” lacked energy for a stadium.
Consequently, frustrated social media users flooded the internet, calling it one of the worst versions ever.
How Social Media Reacted
A historic NFL opener in Melbourne was supposed to be remembered for two California teams and a packed Cricket Ground.
Instead, the first viral argument of the night was aimed at Infinity Song, the New York sibling act handed the Star-Spangled Banner.
“This might be the worst performance of a National Anthem ever, holy sh-t,” one person said.
“Idk who Infinity Song is, but that National Anthem was terrible lol,” a second person added.
“I wish I had the Infinity Gauntlet so I could snap away this Infinity Song band who just performed the national anthem,” a third person wrote.
In the meantime, the San Francisco 49ers secured a dominant 27-7 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Australia.
Things started great for the Rams when running back Kyren Williams scored a short touchdown run. They had no clue at the time, but they wouldn’t score another point for the remainder of the game.
