This can be a problem for listeners, as he has no filter, and it was a big issue when he recently interviewed a Southern Charm star. Nick and his wife, Natalie Joy, brought up a tragic d3ath, and it sent followers into a tailspin. Keep reading for the backlash from the situation.

Nick Viall Crosses Line With Southern Charm Star

When it comes to tragedy, Nick Viall is no stranger. The former Bachelor star and his wife, Natalie Joy, have suffered a handful of devastating losses, which they have been candid about. Regardless, they have never held back on their podcast, The Viall Files, and will ask their guests anything. This can be a good and bad thing as they cut right to the chase. Unfortunately, the duo is now facing backlash for crossing the line with a Southern Charm star over a tragic and personal d3ath.

Fans of the hit Bravo show know that Austen Kroll’s sister, Kyle, passed away when she was a little girl. She fell off a cliff while the Krolls were on a family trip in North Carolina back in 1994. This has long been hard for Austen, and he has been candid regarding the pain he and his family went through. When he appeared on The Viall Files on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, Natalie Joy dodged away from Southern Charm and went over to Kyle:

“Quickly jumping out of ‘Southern Charm,’ I’m sure we’re gonna jump right back into it, but going into your childhood, I didn’t know this about your sister passing at 9.”

This threw Austen for a loop, and he was visibly taken aback. Nick Viall chimed in, wanting to know if Austen’s sister, Katie, felt any spiritual connection to Kyle, who arrived after the tragedy. Natalie Joy continued to poke and prod. Nick’s wife wanted to know how old Austen was when his sister passed, and if he was there. She asked what the cliff was like, and more. This sent listeners into a rage, and they were not happy with what happened.

Unacceptable Behavior

This Viall Files interview did not sit well with anyone who heard it. They felt that Nick Viall and Natalie Joy more than crossed the line with Austen Kroll. The Southern Charm star took it all in stride; however, it was invasive and hurtful. His co-star, Rodrigo Reyes, spoke out and slammed the couple, calling Natalie “a POS.” Other listeners had this to say:

You guys could not be more careless with your words. Austen was so kind as you both were so careless and flippant about his grief.
Nick should be absolutely embarrassed by Natalie… wth
immediately turned it off when she just brought up his sister. NATALIE GIRL you are so unaware of your behavior.

It seemed like Natalie was attacked more than Nick, but fans felt that he should control the situation. This is his podcast, so he should call the shots. Unfortunately, it went in the wrong way and may have turned listeners off for good.
