New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe’s rough season keeps finding new ways to stay in the spotlight. Volpe, who is already under fire for his struggles at the plate and in the field this season, became the target of fresh trolling on Monday night, this time away from the field.

Anthony Volpe showed up to the Carlos Rodon Foundation event in New York, looking sharp in a black tuxedo. But what really turned heads was the mystery blonde by his side, dressed in a cream-colored cutout gown that had social media buzzing.

Within minutes, fans weren’t talking about his defense or hitting. Instead, they were joking that Anthony Volpe’s energy was being spent elsewhere.

Clips and photos from the event quickly went viral on social media, where trolls roasted him for bagging a hot date despite being one of the worst everyday hitters in baseball this year.

Check out some reactions:

“Sorry Anthony I was not familiar with your game,” one X user commented.

“Is that his girl? Pls don’t tell me it is,” another user reacted.

“Now I know why he’s strength has been gone can’t field and can’t hit because he’s been hitting at home,” one fan posted.

“Your telling me that I can bat near the Mendoza line with below avg defense and bag that???? wtf is life,” another fan wrote.

“Swings for the fences off the field as well,” one fan commented.

“Hope he hits that better than he hits a baseball,” another X user trolled.

“Anthony Volpe has game off the field but not on the field,” another MLB fan mocked.

“Pardon me Volpe. Was not familiar with your game,” one fan replied.

Anthony Volpe Continues To Struggle On The Field

Volpe has been on the radar of frustrated Yankees fans all summer due to his poor performance. On Sunday, he committed his 19th error of the season, the most in the American League, with only Elly De La Cruz (23) having more across MLB.

At the plate, things have been even uglier. Over his last 72 games, Anthony Volpe is hitting just .166 with a .213 on-base percentage and a 53 wRC+, all ranking dead last among qualified hitters. Yet despite his poor run, he has received constant backing from manager Aaron Boone, which has only added to the fans’ frustration.

Now, the 24-year-old finds himself in the middle of a storm once again. He may have stolen the spotlight at Rodon’s event, but until his numbers improve, the trolling will unlikely go away anytime soon.
