FANS of a popular ABC drama series have voiced their frustrations over its seemingly earlier-than-expected finale.

High Potential is gearing up to air its Season 2 finale on April 7, after a sporadic few months of new episodes.

The finale will air weeks before other network favorites, such as Will Trent, Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1, and 9-1-1: Nashville, which don’t wrap up their seasons until May.

Fans expressed their disappointment on social media about the show’s earlier end, especially given that Season 3 isn’t scheduled to release until the fall.

“Why is the finale SO early in the spring? Shouldn’t it be in May?” one Reddit user posted, starting the discussion.

“Still feels so early compared to other shows,” another agreed.

“I thought it was odd they aired the Mother’s Day episode in March, when Mother’s Day is around May 15th – about 6 weeks ahead. Wonder if they expected more breaks?” a third reacted.

“Yeah … everything about the way they mapped out 18 episodes against a full season feels like it was designed to ensure NO ONE was happy!” a fourth complained.

“I’d rather it end now than have unnecessary breaks of weeks at a time throughout the season to have the season end in May,” a fifth said.

The season has had quite a few interruptions since its September premiere, though it has increased its episode count to 18 from the first season’s 13, according to TVLine.

The show – led by Kaitlin Olson, Daniel Sunjata, Steve Howey, and Judy Reyes – had a months-long mid-season break before being abruptly suspended again in February.

Instead, the network aired two reruns of Will Trent in the 9pm and 10pm timeslots, following a new episode of the procedural at 8.

While ABC didn’t explain the break, fans speculated it was to avoid competing with the Winter Olympics on NBC—a strategy that impacted many primetime lineups.

High Potential was again canceled the following week in favor of three episodes of Will Trent.

Even after the Olympics ended on February 22, the show still didn’t return for another week because the network aired President Donald Trump‘s State of the Union address.

The show recently confirmed its Season 3 renewal, though it’s not anticipated to premiere until September 2027.

Despite the seemingly short second season, it brought in staggering numbers with 12.98 million total viewers, seven days after its release on ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and other streamers, according to TV Insider.

The season also had the best seven-day linear performance for an ABC scripted series in over five years, since Grey’s Anatomy held the title in November 2020.

High Potential follows single mother Morgan (Kaitlin), who assists the police in solving impossible cases with her highly intelligent mind and organizational skills.

The series airs on Tuesdays at 9:00/8:00pm EST on ABC and is available to stream the next day on multiple platforms.
