Diana Taurasi popped a question about whether Paige Bueckers ever tried to be someone else, but the Wings’ guard replied that she was rather mistaken for Sophie Cunningham.
After a Rookie of the Year season in the WNBA, Paige Bueckers is on a mini tour, attending multiple games, including soccer, football, and basketball games. While attending her alma mater, UConn Huskies game, Bueckers described a “surreal feeling” watching from the stands.
Recently, she reunited with another former UConn superstar, Diana Taurasi, who started a new YouTube show. The show revolves around the WNBA legend talking with her guests, sharing stories, and even engaging in trash talk while playing new golf. Several previously unknown stories about PB emerged in the recent episode, one of which might shock WNBA fans.
Paige Bueckers Mistaken For Sophie Cunningham
The Wings’ star was a guest on Diana Taurasi’s show, where the champion duos shared their stories around UConn, WNBA, and their fanbase. While on the topic of googling herself, Taurasi asked Bueckers if she’s ever pretended to be someone else.

The 2025 rookie said that she instead has been mistaken for Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham. Bueckers said, “In [Washington] DC, [a fan] was like, ‘Oh my gosh, are you Sophie Cunningham?’” She was able to laugh about it.
Sophie Cunningham and PB had an epic showdown in the WNBA when the Fever and Wings faced each other. The forward even praised the talented rookie for her game and scoring abilities. On Taurasi’s show, the reigning NCAA Champion and former winner spoke on many other topics, including their college fun and current trends.
Both UConn stars came from Geno Auriemma’s coaching and found success in the WNBA. While both dominated their eras, they have a few ‘stories’ with the legendary coach.
Paige Bueckers Reveals One Secret About Geno Auriemma
At one moment, DT asked the 2025 rookie whether she had received any special ‘words’ for defense from Auriemma, who always preferred a defensive game from his scorers. PB gave a savage reply, saying, Auriemma always focused on her offense as her defense was perfect.
Earlier in an interview with USA Today, the star revealed that the 12-time NCAA Champion coach was nicer to her, which was unlike him. Speaking about the incident, Bueckers said, “He’s a lot nicer to me now that I’m not a player there. We picked up right where we left off for sure.”
The player is now looking to take on UConn roots to forge a winning culture with the Dallas Wings, as she won a championship with the program and navigated a tough period.
