Former tennis star Maria Sharapova shared a new photo via social media this week and was barely recognizable.

The Russian, now 38, is a five-time Grand Slam champion who stunned Serena Williams at Wimbledon in 2004, beating her in the final as a 17-year-old. She climbed to the top of the world rankings the following year, hitting No. 1 in 2005.

Sharapova retired from tennis in 2020 but remains close to the game and returned to Wimbledon on Monday, looking a bit different.

Known for her blonde hair, she posted a photo alongside former soccer star David Beckham in which she’s seen smiling while showing off brunette locks.

“Before the @Wimbledon gates opened this morning, we got to film some fun content 🎥,” she wrote in the caption.

The photo has gone viral to the tune of close to 1.8 million views and has drawn plenty of comments, including questions.

“My two favorite people: MariaSharapova and DavidBeckham. Truly legends who inspire me every day!” someone declared.

“What toothpaste do you use?” a user asked.

“What kind of content…?” another enquired.

“Two legends but different games😊,” someone else observed.

“Maria, you are much more beautiful now Maria…love it,” another comment read.

Maria Sharapova ditched the blonde look a while ago and has had darker hair for a few years now. But she hasn’t been seen at Wimbledon in a while, and her somewhat new look made it a bigger splash.

Since retiring, Sharapova has focused on raising her family and various business ventures, including her candy brand, Sugarpova, and is still active in fashion.

The 38-year-old is also an advocate for women’s empowerment.
