The Washington Mystics might have to compete the entire 2025 WNBA season without rookie guard Georgia Amoore.

Amoore spent four years at Virginia Tech before transferring to Kentucky for her final season of college basketball. She averaged 19.6 points per game and earned All-SEC honors during her brief stint with the Wildcats.

The Mystics selected Amoore with the sixth overall pick in this year’s draft. The hope is that she’ll lead their backcourt for years to come. Unfortunately, her WNBA career started on the wrong foot.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Mystics revealed that Amoore suffered an ACL injury in practice this week.

“The Washington Mystics announced that guard Georgia Amoore suffered a right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Tuesday’s practice,” the team said in a press release. “Amoore and the team will examine treatment and rehabilitation options and provide an update as appropriate.”

The timing of this injury is devastating. The Mystics have their preseason opener on May 3 against the Indiana Fever.

WNBA fans are keeping Amoore in their prayers this Wednesday.

“Prayers for a speedy recovery,” one fan said.

“Sending Georgia healing prayers,” a second fan tweeted.

“Terrible news to hear! Prayers up for Georgia,” a third fan wrote.

“It’s almost like… maybe collegiate athletes who JUST finished their entire grueling season… shouldn’t have to immediately jump into a full swing pro season. Makes me sick,” another person said.

Amoore has not yet commented on her injury. Perhaps the Mystics are waiting for an update on the severity of it.

We’re hoping Amoore makes a full and speedy recovery.
