Sherrone Moore was released from jail last week.
A top NFL head coach who spent six seasons with Sherrone Moore has given some somber details about their recent conversation.
Last Wednesday, stunning news broke that Michigan fired Sherrone Moore for having an “innapropriate relationship” with a staff member. In another shocking development, Moore was arrested that same day on suspicion of assault.
The 39-year-old Moore made his first court appearance on Friday. He was charged with stalking, breaking and entering and third-degree home invasion and released from jail later that day.
Moore had been with the Wolverines since 2018. Then-Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh brought Moore on as his tight ends coach. Moore was named Harbaugh’s successor in 2024, after the latter left for the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers.
During an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show”, Harbaugh addressed the difficult situation surrounding his former assistant (h/t Us Weekly):
“I still don’t have my head wrapped around it, Dan. It’s a tragedy and I’m just praying for all concerned. I love my alma mater. Love Michigan…It’s a tragedy. It’s the worst days of his life…“Keep it together and take care of his family, that’s the message. Getting spiritual guidance is really critical.”
Biff Poggi was named the interim head coach following Moore’s firing. The Wolverines will finish up their 2025 season against the Texas Longhorns in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on December 31.

Moore was the interim head coach for three games in 2023, when Harbaugh served a suspension for the infamous sign-stealing scandal. Though the Wolverines went 3-0, Moore was only credited with a single victory.
Michigan, of course, went on to beat the Washington Huskies to claim the national championship.

Including his one victory as an interim HC, Moore went 18-8 as the head coach of the Wolverines. If not for a blowout loss to Ohio State in the regular-season finale, Michigan might have qualified for the 12-team College Football Playoff.
