Guthrie is known to many as a co-anchor on Today. She has held this position since 2012, first joining NBC News in 2007.

However, inside sources have claimed that Guthrie might soon exit the series. This comes out following recent developments concerning her family.

Recently, viewers have been following the Guthrie family after Savannah’s mother, Nancy, was reported missing from her home in Arizona. Since she was first reported missing on February 1, 2026, Savannah and her family have appealed for help on social media, with her Today co-hosts also sharing updates on the story.

However, recent reports have claimed that Savannah is interested in leaving Today. This comes out months after she filmed a segment for the show with her mother.

Reportedly, sources speaking with NewsNation‘s senior story editor Paula Froelich shared that Savannah could be worried that her fame caused her mother to be targeted. On Saturday, Froelich shared, “This absolutely came out of the blue, and I think she’s really concerned that it was because of her job.”

Savannah’s Mother Had Been Featured On A Number Of Today Segments Over The Years

Months before Nancy was reported missing, The Today Show filmed a segment with Guthrie near her mother’s $1 million home. The piece, dubbed “Savannah’s Arizona Homecoming,” also featured her sister, Annie. During the segment, Savannah mentioned that she often returned to the area, “I have to come here every time I come home to Tucson.”

Over the years, Savannah had appeared in a number of segments for the show. However, the piece featuring Nancy’s home had been especially notable as the site has since become a crime scene following her disappearance.

Savannah has been on leave from the show as FBI authorities investigate the case. Reportedly, bitcoin ransom demands have also been received in connection with the case.

According to Froelich, Guthrie may wonder if past exposure, such as her mother appearing in a segment on the show, implanted ideas in the minds of people “with bad characters.” As she noted, Guthrie is known to be well-compensated for her work with Today.

Moving forward, Froelich claimed that security for her family will be a top priority for Guthrie. At this time, no arrests have been made in the kidnapping. According to the outlet, however, the Pima County sheriff confirmed that three people, however, have been detained as authorities pursued a lead. An “imposter” was previously reported as having been arrested by the FBI in connection to ransom notes.
