The basketball legend steps back into the spotlight for a major athlete-storytelling event

Scottie Pippen may have been known for his quiet dominance on the basketball court, but on May 8, the Hall of Famer made noise in a different way-stepping into the Hollywood limelight for the first time in over five years.
The NBA great made his return to the red carpet, attending the Hidden Empire Sports & Content (HESC) gala hosted by Hidden Empire Films and The Union in Los Angeles.
It wasn’t just any red carpet appearance. The event, part of a groundbreaking partnership with the Sundance Institute, celebrated the next generation of athlete storytellers.
Pippen‘s presence marked his reentry into the public eye with purpose, as he promotes a new documentary and, perhaps unintentionally, brings renewed focus to his high-profile family.

A legendary player and now a storyteller
The HESC showcase was more than glitz and glamour. Organized to spotlight athletes who are transitioning into the world of media and storytelling, the initiative aims to give players the tools and platforms to share authentic, untold stories. For Scottie Pippen, this aligns perfectly with his latest project.
Pippen posed alongside former NBA forward turned media personality Matt Barnes, who has earned acclaim for his “All The Smoke” podcast.
I had the pleasure of speaking and presenting the @Game5Ball project aka $Ball to the Sundance Institute last night in front of a crowd of film enthusiasts. Our documentary is in the works and we’re building something special, bringing culture to Web3. https://t.co/QUmbKM0UsW pic.twitter.com/MReTXCLcSi

The Bulls icon is now working with Hidden Empire Films on a new documentary, centered around the infamous “Game 5 Ball,” a pivotal relic from his career with the Chicago Bulls. Director Deon Taylor shared photos of Pippen at the event via Instagram, confirming his involvement in the storytelling collaboration.
This red carpet moment adds to a string of subtle reemergences by Pippen, whose focus in recent years had been on personal ventures, family matters, and a break from the public eye after his last high-profile appearances in 2018.
The timing of Pippen‘s return coincides with increasing public speculation about his ex-wife, Larsa Pippen. In recent weeks, Larsa and her much younger partner, Coby, have fueled rumors of an impending wedding. The couple was seen walking hand-in-hand at a Miami event, and when confronted by paparazzi, Coby didn’t hold back.
“We’re getting married 2025. We’re getting married. It’s gonna be a beautiful marriage. November 2025… I can’t tell you when I’m gonna propose,” Coby said.
