Taylor Swift fans immediately expressed concern about one of Travis Kelce’s potential groomsmen following the news of their engagement.

In a heartwarming Instagram post shared on Tuesday, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift announced their engagement with a caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married🧨”.

Travis’ brother, former Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro center Jason Kelce, is the heavy betting favorite to serve as the groom’s best man. Meanwhile, Swifties are holding out hope that one of Travis’ teammates won’t be among the groomsmen.

In May 2024, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker made headlines with controversial remarks to graduating students at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. Butker made homophobic, antisemitic, sexist and misogynistic remarks, including a comment about how women should be “homemakers” like his wife.

Taylor Swift fans brought up Butker’s comments and expressed concern about Travis Kelce potentially choosing the veteran kicker as one of his groomsmen.

“As a Swiftie, I’m heartbroken seeing Harrison Butker, with his pro-life, anti-abortion views, possibly standing as a groomsman at Taylor’s wedding to Travis Kelce. Taylor’s always been our voice for women’s rights and progressive values, and this feels like a slap in the face,” one fan wrote.

“And Brittany Mahomes and a bridesmaid. Let’s get a little crazy,” said another.

“Ain’t no way Travis Kelce would make some idiot kicker a groomsman,” wrote a fan.

“This app would break if Harrison Butker was his best man,” a user commented.

“taylor swift and travis kelce are engaged so i blocked harrison butker,” said a fan.

Jason Kelce will obviously be one of the groomsmen. It’s unclear if Kelce and Butker are actually close outside of football, though, and it feels more likely that Patrick Mahomes would be chosen as a groomsmen over Butker.

2025 May Be Travis Kelce’s Final NFL Season

The 35-year-old Kelce pondered retirement after the Chiefs were destroyed 40-22 by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59. Kelce had another disappointing statistical season, tallying just 97 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns.

But the future Hall of Famer decided to put retirement on hold and return for at least one more season, wanting to give it another crack at a fourth Super Bowl championship. With Kelce turning 36 in October, it’s anybody’s guess how much mileage is really left in that Hall of Fame body.

For now, Kelce is focused on helping Kansas City avenge its devastating Super Bowl 59 defeat. The team kicks off the 2025 season against the AFC West rival Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5, followed by a Super Bowl rematch with the Eagles on Sept. 14.
